Four Seasons on Gold

Plum, magnolia, wisteria and peony carried across six leaves of burnished gold. One continuous garden, painted by hand and made to stand on a floor or hang flat on a wall.
The gold ground is what you notice first: it changes with the light, from a soft yellow in the morning to a deep, almost bronze tone under lamps at night. Against it the branches are painted in wet ink with color dropped in while the ink was still damp, so the blossoms bleed slightly at their edges. That bleeding is the mark of a brush, not a press.
The panels are hinged with paper in the traditional way, so the screen folds in either direction and can stand in a shallow zigzag on a floor. Each leaf carries an inscription and seals, which we record as they appear and do not translate or attribute.
Offered as a decorative screen, painted by hand. We describe the paper, the pigment and the mounting as we find them and make no representation as to age, origin or maker.
